Elegant White Kitchen Remodel – Before, During and After

Hey everyone! I am so excited to share the last few weeks of our kitchen remodel with you! The last four weeks have been dirty, noisy, frustrating, beautiful, exciting and spectacular all rolled into one!!!

Our kitchen before was dark, dated, falling apart and in need of an overhaul. We worked on the plans for our new elegant, white kitchen for almost a year. You can read more about that process and how you can plan for any remodel or redecorating project here.

The decision to redo the kitchen wasn’t one that came easily or overnight. My husband and I discussed many options on how we could “redo” what needed to be changed without having to take everything out. After listing all the things we needed to change {more oven space, replace broken cabinets, bigger fridge}, we decided that redoing the whole kitchen would be the best thing.

I can’t tell you how many times I second guessed our decision! I am such a sentimental person! We’ve been in our home for 10 years and have made so many memories in our kitchen!!! My last two babies were bathed every night in our kitchen sink. Our pantry door frame held markings of each child’s growth over the years! My heart strings were pulled tight. On the other hand, we plan to stay in our home for a very long time and it just made sense to make the changes to the kitchen now while all 5 kids are still home. So with a very nervous heart, on February 13th we started our remodel.

Come along with me on the journey remodeling our kitchen, week by week…

Week number 1 was messy and loud! It was also very productive! Here’s what happened…

Week 1

  • Demolition of cabinets and corner pantry
  • Tile Removal
  • Dry wall repair
  • Electrical {prewiring for the cabinets, swap out large can lights for small LED}
  • Cabinet installation
  • Prep for wood – we tore out some existing pieces to puzzle the new wood together seamlessly

I told you it was a dirty, busy week! Our contractor and cabinet guy are amazing! They kept us on track and did fabulous work.

Week 2, we began to put the kitchen back together!

Week 2

  • Wood installed
  • Appliances delivered
  • Custom wood beams and hood installed {you can find our cabinet installer here}
  • Cabinet crown goes up
  • Hardware – the jewelry of the cabinets installed!!!

This La Cornue rangeย will take your breath away! The first time I saw one, 5 years ago, it took mine away!

Smiling because that’s all you can do when you remodel! Smile and enjoy the journey!!!

This crystal and gold hardware is my most favorite kitchen detail!!! They sparkle and shine and bring a classy, glam element to the room. They are from House of Antique Hardware {handles here, knobs here}, a company that makes the most exquisite hardware designed from antique hardware. I found them a few years ago when searching for crystal doorknobs for our house. I love using their pieces to add character and charm to a space.

Here’s a picture of the slabs we picked out. They are a beautiful marble with gray and cream veining and a glittery white background {Montclair Whiteย is the closest to the one we found}. We found it at Arizona Tileย in their Scottsdale location. They offer an amazing selection of granite, marble and quartz! They are so friendly and give gorgeous samples for you to take home and try out.

Do your homework when shopping for countertops. We considered using quartz instead, but when we saw the quartz and marble slabs side by side, we knew instantly marble was more our style. Marble is harder to maintain, but we are willing to take that on in order to have this gorgeous, timeless material in our home. We have marble in our bathroom and absolutely love it. I’ll be sharing how you can care for your marble to keep it looking great soon.

Here it is on installation day!

The jewelry on the island is this stunning Blanco sink and gold faucets! I love the towel bar that matches our stove. I can’t wait to show you more on this sink in the full kitchen reveal coming in April!!! Blanco is an incredible company that carries top of the line products. They offer everything from traditional to contemporary styles.

Don’t be afraid to mix metals in your home. Metals are neutrals and pair so well together.

This week it’s all about lighting and the finishing touches. Here’s a sneak peek of the lighting!!! All of the lighting in the kitchen is from Lighting Design Company. I have followed them on Instagram for years. They are the best to work with. If you don’t see what you are looking for on their website or showrooms you can simply ask for them to order it for you like I did.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be sharing the full kitchen reveal in April!!!

  1. Randi, what an exciting post! I love the crown molding and drawer pulls. They are just exquisite. You’ve done a marvelous job putting it all together and I can’t wait to see the final reveal. Well done!

    1. Ingrid thank you so much! I love that you noticed all of the little details! I’m so exited to show the full room!!! xo

  2. Such a beautiful space! I’m going to borrow a few for our design. I noticed you used a similar island layout in the old and new kitchen. Was that out of necessity or did it just work well in the space? Looking forward to the April post!

    1. Kam, hi! Thank you for the lovely compliment! We did keep the basic footprint very similar because we love having a large island! With so many kiddos and loving to entertain, we use the island all the time! Thanks again! xo

  3. Randi I am having so much fun watching this transformation! You have outdone yourself and this couldn’t be more perfect!! I can’t wait to see those fridge panels! I have an idea what might be coming!! And you know how I love that stove! This is perfection!!

    1. Thanks so much Tam! I’m so glad you like the changes! You have impeccable taste my friend and your approval means the world! I’m so excited to show you!!! xo

  4. Randi this space is so inspiring my friend!! I’m in complete awe๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜. I know it’s been a long time in the works but it will be so worth it when it’s completely finished and I can’t wait for the full reveal!! I also can’t wait to see your marble post as I have one in the pipeline so I’m interested to see how ours are similar and different from one another. Ok, now I’ll be waiting patiently to see this beauty finished and thanks for another great post ๐Ÿ’—

    1. Thank you my sweet friend! I’m so excited for you and your new adventure too!!!! Love ya!!! xo

    1. Thank you so much! It is a beautiful piece of marble and even more beautiful in person. It sparkles! Than you for stopping by and for leaving such a sweet comment! Have a lovely day! xo

    1. Thank you! I’m working hard to get it put back together to show it to you! Have a wonderful week! xo

  5. Your kitchen looks stunning! We are in the process of renovating ours and we are down to the final touches, like the backsplash. We had such a tough time finding a close match to our calacatta countertops. Any tips that could have made our lives easier?!

    1. Hi Kristen! How exciting! My best advice is that is doesn’t have to match! Just find something similar. If it matches exactly, I think it looks too matchy, matchy. Our slab doesn’t match our backslash perfectly. I hope that helps!!! Best wishes! xo

  6. Ok Randi! I’m loving it ALL!!!!! We love the same things so I am enjoying seeing everything you pick out! I’m in the middle of picking everything out so I’m enjoying this even more right now. โ˜บ but can I sayโ€ฆ You start talking about being sentimental and share your memories and it was tugging at my heart strings. I don’t know why am so emotional but I’m starting to get all emotional and am missing my babies!!!! Haha! You know I love the hardware and the faucet is on my list. Wish I could have such a fancy oven but it’s going to have to be the next house. And yay for the large fridge! With 5 kids and 4 growing boys I think it’s just a necessity! So happy for you. Lots of love to you! Xoxo! (Ps- loving your cute outfit ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’‹)

    1. Thank you Summer! I’m excited for you and your new home and know that it will be fabulous because you have great style! Love you sweet friend! xo

  7. HI Randi! Im absolutely loving your kitchen remodel! Everything you picked out is just stunning! WE are at a crossroads if we should update our kitchen too after being here twelve years, or if we are ready to move and downsize. Either way I would love a kitchen like this, you have such exquisite taste!

    xoxo,
    Kim

    1. Kim thank you so much! It’s such a hard decision! I know you will come up with the best one for your family! You are the sweetest! xo

  8. Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for sharing your beautiful designs and remodeling tips. They are both very helpful. I hope you share pictures of the pantry cabinets flanking the fridge from the inside in the final reveal? I love the marble inside and am trying to convince my husband that this would not only be beautiful in our kitchen but functional too? Can you give me your thoughts on this d sign element? Thank you!!!

    1. Hi Susan! Thank you for your sweet comment! I will be showing the insides of the cabinets. I’m not sure if I will include that in the first reveal or in a one in the near future. They have pull out shelves and drawers below them. I love them! I will defiantly be sharing the details! xo

    1. Thank you Kristin! It is finally done and I sharing a tour of it today! xo

  9. I love your kitchen!! It is so beautifully done! Do you by chance know where you bought the refrigerator pulls? Thanks!
