Chocolate Cherry Valentine Cupcakes and Tablescape

When you think back on holidays from your childhood, don’t you remember sugar?!  I remember holidays as days we could pig out on sugar, unlike most of the other days during the year.  As a grown up it’s still fun to celebrate each holiday creating a special treat for my children. Baking and packaging treats are some of my favorite pastimes.  Baking can be relaxing and is one of the ways I like to show my affection for others. This Valentine’s Day I took inspiration from a Valentine classic, chocolate covered cherries. My grandfather loved chocolate covered cherries, so I always think of him this time of year and smile.  Here are some easy, yet impressive, chocolate cherry cupcakes for you to make to celebrate your Valentine’s Day. I also included an easy Valentine’s Day tablescape.

For the cupcake, I just used a cherry chip cake mix… I told you it was easy!  That cherry flavor just reminds me of childhood!  The frosting is also easy AND decadent, it’s Magnolia Bakery’s chocolate frosting recipe.  You can find the recipe here. It is scrumptious.

The cherry on top makes this cupcake really special! Just slide a toothpick through a cherry.  {You have to be in front of or behind the pit or the toothpick won’t go through.}  Once the cherry is inserted, wipe off both ends with a paper towel.  Cut out the points and the tails of the arrow and adhere them to the toothpick.  Dust the cupcake with a little gold food glitter for some sparkle.

The gold basket is really a raspberry basket spray painted gold.  Make sure you place a doily underneath the cupcakes to protect the food from the paint.

This table was super simple too. A cream tablecloth from Home Goods, some paper placemats, my everyday white china and silverware topped off with some stemware adorned with party paper straws create an easy and elegant tablescape for Valentine’s Day.

The cupcakes are the centerpiece along with a basket full of cherries and a mailbox spray painted gold.  I glittered the flag because I may have a small glitter addiction.

Our family leaves love notes to each other in the mailbox during the month of February. We read them on Valentine’s Day.
