This is a family favorite recipe! My grandma got it from her mom. It’s a beloved recipe our family makes every Easter and Thanksgiving. I hope you love it!
Ingredients
- Roll Dough
- 2 Tablespoons Yeast
- 1/2 Cup Warm Water
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Shortening
- 3 Eggs beaten
- 2 tsp Salt
- 3/4 Cup Warm Water
- 4 1/2 Cups Flour
- Filling
- 1 Grated Orange Rind
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Butter at room temperature
- Frosting (optional)
- 1 Stick Salted Butter
- 6-8 Cups Powdered Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Orange Juice
- 1 Rind of Orange
Instructions
- Soak 2 T of yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.
- Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 shortening, 3 beaten eggs, 2 tsp salt and 3/4 cup warm water.
- Add to yeast mixture.
- Beat in 4 1/2 cups flour. Cover and let rise until double in size.
- Mix down, cover and put in the fridge overnight.
- Two hours before serving, roll out like a jelly roll (use ample flour) and spread the filling mixture on the dough - 1 grated orange rind, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter.
- Roll up dough tightly like a cinnamon roll log.
- Cut in 1 inch slices and place in well greased muffin tins.
- Cook at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Remove from tins immediately.
- If frosting, mix all frosting ingredients in a bowl with hand mixer.
- Spread frosting on cooled rolls.
