Mother’s Day has always been one of my favorite days of the year. I grew up with a mom who was my best friend, even through High School! Because she is one of my best friends, I love to spoil her on this special day. As a little girl, I would pick flowers from my dad’s beautiful garden and arrange them on a breakfast tray with handmade notes from my siblings and I. We would wake up extra early to make a special breakfast for her and serve it to her in bed.
Those are some of my most treasured memories. Time has sped quickly on and my mom is still one of my dearest friends. We live miles apart and I’m not able to sneak into her room with a tray of flowers and a carefully prepared breakfast to show her how much I love her. Instead I try to think of special, sentimental gifts that let her know my love and gratitude to her as my mom.
So, I know that we have a few weeks before the big day, but time seems to slip away from you before you know it! I thought if I shared a few sentimental gift ideas with you now, you would be ahead of the game and would really be able to make this year special for your mom or special lady in your life.
I’m excited to share 3 sentimental gift ideas for Mother’s Day!
Set a Sentimental Table for your Mom
If you have a tight budget or your mom just doesn’t “need” another “thing”, try setting a special, sentimental table just for her. Serve her favorite meal or dessert! My mom collects blue and white dishes and ginger jars. My wedding china is blue and white because of her special influence. We’ve been on many shopping trips together on the hunt for more blue and white to add to her collection. It was only fitting to set a table with my collection of blue and white ginger jars for her.
I was raised in southern California with the scent of fresh orange blossoms in the air, and large orange trees out back. To make this table more sentimental, I clipped some leaves from my orange tree out back and picked some fresh oranges.
To get this look
- Arrange some blue and white ginger jars down the center of the table on top of a table runner { you can find mine here }. This runner is my new favorite piece!!!
- Clip some citrus leaves from a tree, or any tree if you don’t have citrus trees. Be sure to wash and dry the leaves before placing them on the table.
- Pick some fresh oranges or lemons, either is stunning with the blue and white. Use store bought fruit, if you don’t have access to fresh citrus.
- Tuck tree clippings in between the jars to create a garland.
- Nestle oranges or lemons into the leaves. Try cutting a few of them in half and blotting the juice with a paper towel. This will add more interest.
- Set your place settings.
Write your Mom a Special Note
So, I’ve been eyeing these Sasha Nicholas plates for a few years. Monogramed plates are so classy and timeless! These beauties have a 24K gold rim, a basket weave border and a dainty scalloped edge, making them the most exquisite plate! You can also have them customized with a note on the back with up to 150 characters!
My husband had each of my children write love notes to me and Sasha Nicholas printed them on the backs of my plates with the date of this year’s Mother’s Day on them! When they arrived I was speechless. These are such a dear treasured gift!!!
These would make the most fabulous gift for your mom from you and your siblings! I was so excited when I got them, I started thinking about how many ways I could use them. They would make wonderful wedding gifts with a special note to the bride and groom – Birthday gifts for dear family and friends – Anniversary presents! The possibilities are endless! They have many different font and color options too.
If your budget is tight, write your mom a special note and hand deliver it OR send it in the old fashioned mail. DO NOT send a text or an email!!! This sentimental note should be a tangible treasure they can hold and read and reread.
Have Monogramed Napkins Made for your Mom
A few years ago, my sisters and I were chatting about what special gift we could give my mom for Mother’s Day. My mom loves to entertain and sets fabulous tables – that’s where I inherited my love for entertaining! We came up with the “perfect” gift for her, monogramed napkins! My mom has drawers full of napkins, but none that were made special for her, with her initials! Again, I love monograms, they are timeless and classy. So is my mom. She loved them! Have some made special for your mom and I know she will love them too!!!
Mine are from a special company called Bella Lino . I stumbled across their website while looking for some monogrammed napkins. Their selection and quality are fabulous! When I saw the gold crowned Dalton monogrammed napkins , it was love at first sight {I also fell in love with many more of their styles I will be sharing in the future}! I have a thing for crowns.. ummm and gold!
I spoke with a monogramming expert and she said that most clients like to use just the bride’s initials, instead of a combination of the bride and groom {or husband and wife}. There is no “right” or “wrong”, just preference. Always put the last name as the center letter.
Plan ahead this year, and make your mom feel extra special by setting her a sentimental table, writing her a note, or creating a monogrammed gift just for her! Wishing you all a lovely day!
