Creating a Resort-Inspired Backyard Retreat

One of my favorite things about design is the ability to create spaces that transport you — spaces that make everyday life feel a little more beautiful and memorable. Matt and I have noticed that our favorite places to travel all have one thing in common, you can find charming umbrellas at each of these places adding instant charm to any space! Adding these striped fringe umbrellas to our backyard, instantly refreshed it and completely transformed the space into a retreat that feels inspired by some of our favorite travels.

From the timeless charm of Palm Beach to the elegance of Nice, France, the romance of Paris, the relaxed beauty of the Amalfi Coast, and the coastal sophistication of Newport Beach, each destination influenced the feeling I wanted to create here at home. I wanted our backyard to feel layered, charming, and effortlessly luxurious while still remaining comfortable and inviting for family life.

The scalloped umbrellas with fringe detailing brought in the perfect touch of whimsy and old-world charm. Paired with the soft neutral loungers and soothing blue pool tones, they instantly created that boutique hotel feeling I’ve always loved while traveling. It’s amazing how one statement piece can completely elevate an outdoor space and make it feel thoughtfully designed.

I truly believe your home should tell your story and reflect the places and experiences you love most. This backyard refresh feels like a little escape right outside our door — a place where we can slow down, gather, and bring a touch of our favorite destinations into everyday life.
