Dining Room Home Decor Tips on a Budget

Dining Room Home Decor Tips: How to Achieve Your Dream Dining Room on a Budget

randi garrett design dream dining room on a budget

Here are a few home decor tips to make your dining room your dream dining room on a budget! My dining room is one of my favorite rooms in my house, mostly because it is the only room that is almost always clean! I also love it because it reflects my personal style AND it was affordable.  Here are some tips for how to achieve the dining room of your dreams….

Tip #1 start with the right paint color.

Before:

This room started out decked in brown paper bag. My taste is much brighter and lighter.  Easy, cheap fix, change the paint to match my style.

After:

Isn’t it amazing what simply changing the paint can do?!!!! I changed nothing but the paint color. Best money ever spent!

Tip #2 Mix vintage {a fancy word for old} furniture pieces, with new.

We found this buffet at a Goodwill Store, and refinished it.  Our dining room table was found on Craig’s List then refinished.  They add warmth and weight to the room, and didn’t cost a fraction of what new pieces would have.  By adding new pieces, like our antique white french chairs and accessories, new life was breathed into those older more traditional pieces.

Tip #3 Add collections for accessories

Collections are a wonderful way to bring interest and continuity to your space.  I collect silver platters.  They sat in my cupboards collecting dust for years until I saw a picture on Pinterest that sparked the idea of hanging them on my wall. I grabbed some plate hangers from my local craft store, attached them to my platters and hung them on the wall.

My collection of mercury glass apothecary jars and mercury glass candle sticks are also on display in here. I love them because they add sparkle to this space. Sparkle and I get along real well.

Find what you love, group it together and add it to your space.   Adding things to your room that mean something to you, will make you love your room even more.

Now go buy yourself a can of paint, some vintage furniture and find yourself a collection and you’ll have the dining room of your dreams!   xoxo,

Hi Randi! I love the dark color of your buffet and dining table, what is the color you painted them? Your beautiful dining room has inspired me to change mine! My daughter has also been wanting to change her room and when she saw your daughters she said “that is what I want!” You have a beautiful home and I’m so glad to have stumbled across your blog!

    Thanks,
    Jackie

Thank you Jackie! I used a product called gel stain for the buffet. The table was stained an espresso color by Minwax. I hope that helps! I would love to see photos of your daughter’s room when you are finished! Have so much fun! xo
