Tips for Creating a Bedroom Retreat

1. Choose a Soothing Color Palette

Colors have a significant impact on mood. For a calming environment, opt for soft, muted tones like neutrals, pastel blues, gentle grays, or earthy greens. These colors can create a serene atmosphere conducive to relaxation. If you prefer a bit of contrast, consider adding accents in deeper shades like navy or forest green, but keep the majority of the space in calming hues. Select neutral furnishings for versatility, then add some color in your pillows, rugs and art. Here are some of the neutral beds I love and have used in our home and in design projects I’ve done that you can shop at Wayfair.

2. Invest in Quality Bedding

Your bed is the centerpiece of your bedroom oasis, so invest in high-quality bedding that enhances comfort and style. Layer your bed with plush pillows, a soft throw blanket, and a cozy comforter or duvet to create a visually appealing and inviting space. Here are some of my favorite linens from Wayfair. This embroidered sheet set is stunning, comfy and affordable!

3. Incorporate Ambient Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in setting the mood. Use a combination of lighting sources to achieve a soft, layered effect. Install dimmable overhead lights, bedside lamps with warm-toned bulbs add a touch of magic. Soft, adjustable lighting helps create a peaceful environment, perfect for unwinding after a long day. Here are some of my favorite bedroom lighting options.

Make your bedroom uniquely yours by incorporating personal touches. Display artwork, mirrors or photographs that make you happy, and choose decor that reflects your personality. Adding elements that have sentimental value or evoke positive memories can enhance the emotional comfort of your space.

6. Declutter and Organize

Finally, a cluttered space can lead to a cluttered mind. Keep your bedroom organized by investing in stylish storage solutions such as sleek dressers, or nightstands. Regularly declutter and keep surfaces clear to maintain a serene environment. The fewer distractions, the more peaceful your space will feel. Less is more!
