In the fall we warm our homes with cozy fall colors. The winter we deck the halls for Christmas. Spring brings the desire for fresh and bright decor. The summer makes me want to sit back and relax and enjoy simple summer decor.

To help you enjoy your home this summer, here are my 5 tips to decorate your home with style and ease..

Give your porch a patriotic splash with flags.

The last week of May, I add mini flags  to my planters and pin up flag garlands on my front porch. Memorial until Independence Day, these flags wave in our courtyard. This is such an easy, beautiful way to celebrate summer, Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day all at once.

Instead of a wreath, try hanging a french shopping basket filled with flags to welcome guests.

Add blue and white ginger jars throughout your home.

Blue and white is such a classic summer combination. This season, ginger jars are all the rage. Try adding these blue and white classics to your entry table, kitchen countertops or night stand. Anywhere you use these beauties will feel fresh and summery with little effort!

I like tucking flags or red roses into mine for summer gatherings or for a fun Independence day centerpiece.

Decorate with faux flowers.

All the flowers in the photos above are faux. Yes, faux! I LOVE fresh flowers, but in the summer, we are gone a lot! So, using fresh flowers keeps the house feeling summery without spending money on fresh flowers that we can’t enjoy while we are on vacation.

If you travel a lot, faux flowers are a great option for you. There are some really beautiful faux options out there now. I wrote a post about how to choose them here. Even if you plan to be home a lot, faux flowers are no fuss and will keep your home looking gorgeous without having to run to the store, clip, trim and re-water.

My favorite flower to decorate with in the summer in the hydrangea, I love using olive branches as well.

Freshen up beds and chairs with new pillows.

Oh the power in a pillow! A good throw pillow can make a room. A new pillow is such a simple way to give any room a quick summer fix up.

Place books around your home for lazy summer reading.

This is my favorite tip! With the kids home from school, control of the tv belongs to them! I love to curl up next to my kiddos with a good design book and get lost in a beautiful home. Design books are also the perfect accessory for your coffee, end or bedside table.

  1. The point about the power of a pillow goes to show that it doesn’t take much effort to change up a room. I like to keep it simple when it comes to choosing home decor. That way, it ensures that I don’t make things look cluttered.

  2. Gorgeous Summer touches and tips, Randi!! I’m LOVING all your blue and white!!! Especially that bedding and in your kitchen!
