Master Bedroom Styled 3 Ways for Summer – Tips for Decorating Neutral Bedrooms

I remember when we bought our home, fresh out of school, feeling so overwhelmed at all of the decor choices ahead of me. From furniture to drapery, accessories to pillows. The thought of making choices on big ticket items and choosing poorly scared me to death!

I am one of those people who thinks about how my couch will look with the Christmas tree up! Will my blue sofa match my red ornaments? Β Yes, I know it may sound a little OCD but there is some wisdom in my crazy train of thought! Just stick with me!

Finally after much thought, I decided on neutral pieces that would act as a blank slate for color and pattern. This would allow any color I was crushing on for the holidays or different seasons, to work with my furniture. Thus making my big ticket items timeless.

This was probably the smartest thing I’ve done in my whole life – well at least my design life! Choosing neutral pieces for your home allows you to change the look, style and feel of a room with little effort. Every color can be added as an accent. Any pattern can give you that little pop you’re looking for.

Today I’m going to show you why you should choose pieces for your home that are neutral and timeless. I styled our master bedroom 3 different ways for summer to show you how using these neutral pieces as your backdrop will allow you to transform the feel of your space with minimal changes.

Summer Whites

Our master bedroom stays mostly white for a majority of the year. I just love the way it makes me feel. So first up, here is our master bedroom styled with white linens for summer.

Tips for decorating a white bedroom

  • Texture is key – choose linens that have different texture {think ruffles, fur, chenille, velvet} – texture adds interest to a neutral room
  • Wash your linens frequently to keep them looking fresh and white
  • Layer different shades of white for even more interest – notice the silvery white velvet pillow that seems to pop against the other whites

Classic Blue and White

Brace yourself for some color in our neutral bedroom! Look how different our room looks simply by adding some blue and white linens and a few new accessories! Blue and white is a classic combination, but it is so on trend right now. You can find this color combo everywhere in the design world. The beautiful thing about blue and white – it looks good with almost any design style! Charming country cottages to modern high rise condos can pull off this classic pair with flying colors. Here are a few tips to help you add this duo to your bedroom…

Tips to add blue and white to your bedroom

  • Start with a white bedspread
  • Layer blue and white pillows
  • Accessorize with blue and white ginger jars

It doesn’t take much to introduce this fresh summer trend to your home! The only items I used to create this look were new linens and a few accessories.

Romantic Summer Champagne

Finally I added some soft summer romance to our room with this champagne pink bedding. Ladies, your husband may snub his nose at first if you introduce this feminine color to his bedroom. But, I promise it will grow on him! Men like to be pampered and this soft peachy pink will help them feel just that.

This gorgeous Grace beddingΒ is part of Pom Pom at Home’s new line this year. The duvet and shams are made of a soft cotton and the gorgeous gauzy pillow casesΒ have the most beautiful lace detail. When I saw these new pieces at market this winter, I almost jumped out of my boots! The color makes me think of juicy, ripe, summer peaches. The color is exquisite.

I paired them with another of my favorite Pom Pom at Home pieces, the Charlie Ruffled duvet. Since summers are hot here in Arizona, I just laid the duvet on the bed without the insert.

Tips to add some summer romance to your bedroom

  • Add a little pink to your room with linens and flowers
  • Accessorize with delicious smelling candles
  • Keep flowery fragrance on your nightstand

You may have noticed the only things that changed in each of these rooms, was the linens and a few of the accessories! Try giving your room a totally new look by switching a few things out. Next time you need to purchase a big ticket item, think about purchasing something neutral so you can add any color or pattern to your home!

  1. This is like asking me to choose a favorite child! Not possible! I adore each room for different reasons: white & serene; chic & cheerful; handmade & heirloom inspired. As always, beautifully designed and presented!

  3. These are all so lovely! I feel silly because I can’t seem to find any information on the blue and white comforter you used for look 2! Where can I find it, I’m in love! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Holly! There is a photos under the pictures of the room. Simply click on the photo of the bedding and it will take you to the source. Let me know if you still can’t find it. xo

  4. Hi Randi, I just love your master bedroom! Would you mind posting a link to the set of round mirrors on each side of your bed? The current link that you have posted does not link to a specific item on wayfair. Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Gabrielle, they must be out of stock. I’ll try to see if I can find them elsewhere. xo

  5. Hi Randi~ I absolutely LOVE all three rooms, but No. 3 is hands down my favorite. A dash or hint of pink in a bedroom makes me weak in the knees. Seriously gorgeous!!!!!! I am always excited when I open my e-mail and see that you have posted. In fact, I usually grab a snack and read away. Today’s snack was a giant bag of M&M’s. And yes, I ate every single one. No shame here! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

    1. You just warmed my heart! Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I have a weakness for peanut M&M’s. I eat them until my jaw hurts! Haha! Have a wonderful night! xo

    1. I bought it from RH years ago. I have similar ones linked for you. Thank you! xo
