Today is the day! Ellie’s Girly Teen Bedroom Makeover featuring Pottery Barn Teen is here! Just last week, Ellie started high school! We thought this was the perfect time to give her room a fresh new look.

We first designed her tween bedroom together almost 5 years ago when she was 9 years old (see her tween bedroom makeover here). Now that she is 14 and heading to high school, she was ready to switch things up! Her tall teenage frame no longer fit on the length of her full sized bed!!!

As we began to clear her room out, I became very emotional. So many memories over the last 5 years came flooding back. We had designed her tufted headboard for her tween bedroom and selected each piece together.  It was so much fun putting the room together! Suddenly I started to question our decision to redo her room.

Would her new room be filled with as many memories as her old room? Would the new room feel like home?! Did we choose the right pieces? As we began to find each “old piece” from her bedroom a new home and as each new piece started to arrive, we could see her room transforming into a beautiful new space for this new, exciting time in her teenage life. It became a beautiful symbol of the transformation happening to my cherished little girl. Even though she is growing up I was reminded, she was beautiful and special then, and through this new exciting chapter of young adulthood she is becoming an even more beautiful and cherished version of my darling little girl. Change is hard, but it’s change that stretches us and molds us into a more exquisite version of ourselves.

I hope you enjoy this post and seeing how Ellie and I transformed her tween room into a girly teen bedroom! See a full list of the Pottery Barn Teen products we used at the end of the post.

All of the main pieces for Ellie’s bedroom are from one of her favorite stores, Pottery Barn Teen. They have the most gorgeous, affordable pieces for your teen’s bedroom! The selection they have is fabulous. You can really find everything you need to create a dream space for your teen in one place!

We did keep some of her old pieces in her new bedroom. The pieces we kept in the room were her mirrored nightstands, pink rug, leopard chair, leopard pillow and her pink lamps. I will be sharing more details about the special accessories and artwork we used in her room in a few weeks.

Room Sources

Colette Bed c/o – We fell in love with this French inspired bed! It has a wood frame with a linen insert. The bed has several slats so you can use a mattress without a boxspring. I would actually recommend not using a boxspring. The quality is fabulous and the price is amazing. Ellie’s bed is a queen. It fits her tall frame much better! Because this bed is neutral, we can change the look and style of her bedroom with ease!

Gemma Dresser c/o – This white and gold, clean lined dresser has us both gah gah! There is so much storage in the nice deep dovetailed drawers. The style blends perfectly with the other french pieces in the room giving it a more modern feeling. Here is a link to two similar ones – Flynn Dresser and Auburn Dresser.

Scalloped Mirror c/o – This mirror is a beautiful silvery finish. It also comes in a gold or white finish. We chose the silver to tie in with her silver mirrored nightstands.

Ornate Filagree Mirror c/o -No teen room is complete without a full length mirror! The details on this french style filagree mirror are exquisite! I love how it looks like a french antique.

Glass Beaded Chandelier c/o -Ellie’s beaded chandelier gives her room a glam grownup feeling. The glass beads sparkle when the light is turned on making the room feel magical! I loved how it matched with the lighting in our entryway and above our kitchen table.

Brass Drapery Rod c/o -We updated Ellie’s window from a more juvenile white drapery rod to this glam gold rod. I love the finish of this rod and how it instantly gave her room an updated feel.

Brass Drapery Rings c/o -These are the rings we used to hang her drapes. We used 12 on each side of the rod. They are nice because they just clip onto your draper making them so simple to hang.

Brass Ball Finials c/o -We selected these gorgeous gold ball finials to dress up her curtain rod. You simply screw them into the rod. Love them!

Gold Tassel Blackout Drapes c/o -The gold tassel blackout drapes are amazing! I couldn’t believe how nice the quality was! They hang so nicely and look like custom drapes! They also come in a few different color tassel options.

Pintuck Comforter c/o -Any bed feels more cozy with a comforter! Ellie loved this white pin tuck comforter. It is so soft and the beautiful tucked details look so feminine. Choosing a white bedspread allows you to add any color or pattern to your bed!

Pink Fur Euros – These pink shams are fabulous! They really add a sense of luxury and glam to her bed! Fill them with an insert that is the same size as the pillow for a more relaxed look, or 2″ larger for a fuller look. They also come in several color options.

Pink Border Sheet Set c/o – Pink trimmed sheets! Yes please! We both loved how tailored these sheets felt. They are also so comfortable to sleep on and they are organic!

Gold Tassel Shams – I felt like these gold tassel pillows really tied the drapery into the room. Y0u can get them monogrammed or leave them plain. They too come in several color options.

Floral Duvet + Shams c/o – Every room need a pop! This is the pop for this girly teen bedroom! We loved the drama they add to her room. If she wants a more subdued look, we can simply switch out the duvet and shams for something else. The floral pattern is gorgeous! You will love this set.

Mongolian Fur Pillow c/o – To soften the look of this bed, we finished off the pillow play with a small Mongolian fur pillow. These pillows are my go to for any glam space! They come in lots of sizes and colors too.

Euro Pillow Inserts – Here is a link to the inserts I love to use.

  1. I’m in love with this room. Adding the floral comforter with the black background makes the room less “little girl” like. And then you stepped it up even more with the leopard chair and pillow! Every detail in the room is impeccable!!!! I bow down to the queen of decor!! ☺️😍

  2. Beautiful! Where is the really pretty area rug from that is under the bed? It is so elegant! My email has a full plate; so, I check in daily to look at your blog and IG.

    1. Hi Judy! The rug is sourced if you search “rugs” in the search bar. xo

  3. How beautiful! I love every piece in the room, the dresser is simply amazing in the space and the leopard chair sets the tone for a very grown up space. I know from personal experience how hard it is to go to a grown up space. The good news is no matter how old she will always be your little girl. When you source something it is always available and I have used your sources numerous times since following you. You have no idea how many times I go to the items on other blogs or instagrams and it is no longer available or sold out, I find it very frustrating. I never have that experience with your sources and I just wanted you to know it is very appreciated. Thank you for sharing the beautiful space.

    1. Hi Dana! Thank you so much for your sweet comment! I try to keep things updated so you can get beautiful things for your home. Sometimes things sell out so quickly and we can’t keep up. I’m glad you have always been able to find what you are looking for! xoxo

  4. Randi this room is so adorable!! Please thank Ellie for all of us for sharing her beautiful new private space with us 😍💓

    1. Of course! We had a blast doing this together and she loved getting to share and be a port of the whole process! xo

  5. You have done it again! You are incredible at taking some pieces and putting them together to form something so magical. So proud of you. and your inspiration for thousands! ❤️😘

  6. So beautiful! Love to know where to find leopard chair and star mirror above bed. Thank you! 💕

    1. The leopard chair was a DIY project. I found a chair with pretty bones, painted it and had my upholster reupholster it in this velvet leopard fabric. You could do the same thing! xo

  7. Loved the room before and love it now. Especially love the picture of the 3 girls on the bed!! Hope your sweet daughter enjoys her new space and thanks for sharing it all with us.

    1. Awe thank you Lisa! You are so kind! We 3 girls have to stick together in a house full of boys! haha! xox

  8. Such a lovely remix of new and recycled pieces! A few questions for you Randi, what diameter is the curtain rod, .75 or 1.25? Also i noticed you didn’t take the rod to the top of the ceiling for extra visual height, is there a reason ? My daughters is similiar to yours and I was thinking of taking it higher but not confident it will look good. Do you have one panel of drapes on either side or more than 1? Thank you so much for this beautiful teen room inspiration and I hope Ellie enjoys it for many years to come!

    1. Hi Mary! The curtain rod is 1.25″ I took it up as high as I could to make the window appear larger. I have one panel each side. Thank you so much for your comment! xoxo

  9. Is the mirror above the dresser in the silver finish as opposed t the gold? Also is it the small or large size.
    Thanks so much!
    Xoxo
