Welcome to Day 2 of my 5 Days of Halloween series! If you missed Day 1, our front porch and entry way you can see it here. Today we will be touring the hub of our home, the family / great room and our mantel. This is where we spend most of the time as a family. So, I like to make this room extra special for the kiddos.
The mantel is the focal point of the room. This year I wanted to keep the mantel whimsical like the front entry table. This helps to create a uniform look through the house.
To recreate this look you will need…
{some affiliate links are used}
- Fresh or faux white pumpkins in varied sizes. Tip a few on their sides.
- A couple small faux black pumpkins – here
- Some black berry picks –here
- 3 Black curly twigs or sticks – here
- Black and orange butterflies –here and here
- Black crows – here

On the couch, our neutral pillows were switched out for some black and white pillows and a few soft creamy velvet ones.
I like to use pillow covers that you can slip over pillow forms. This saves space and money. Plus if you have children or pets, you can toss them in wash in order to keep them looking fresh and new.
More white pumpkins decorate the coffee table. Use a few vintage books to give pumpkins varied heights. Try tarrying out a few pages to use as a table runner.
I used the black bird cage from last year’s mantle {here}, for the vignette. More black and orange butterflies and a crow give the table some whimsy.
My kids love this haunted house I found at a local shop years ago. They have fun setting up the fence and little figures we’ve collected over the years.
You can create a huge impact in a room simply by changing the pillows. These “31” pillows were made by my dear friend. You can buy some for your Halloween house here. The black canvas with the gold foiled 31 is my personal favorite!

Mixing metals is totally ok when decorating! Here I mixed a vintage silver bowl with a gold trimmed tray. Fresh baby white pumpkins, can you really have too many?!!!
Every year I create a “spider wall” in our house. It is so simple and so fun! Just buy some fake spiders and attach them to the wall with some sticky tack.
For a simple Halloween centerpiece, add different sized pumpkins to a large urn. Tuck branches or twigs in a few spots for a spooky touch.
You can make this black feather wreath by wrapping 2 black feather boas around a styrofoam wreath form. Hot glue the ends in place and hang with a black striped ribbon.
What you need
Every year, I set an elegant Halloween table {past tables here and here}. I set it at the start of the month and keep it set up until Halloween night. It serves two purposes. One, as decoration for the month of Halloween. Two, the setting for a fun family Halloween dinner featuring everyone’s favorite – Aunt Kim’s taco soup and my mom’s award winning chili! Here’s a sneak peek of this year’s table. I’ll be sharing all the details later this week!
Thank you for visiting Day 2 of our Halloween House Tour. I hope these ideas help you deck your house for Halloween!
