A Lush Fall Mantel with Soft Blues & Autumn Tones

A Lush Fall Mantel with Soft Blues & Autumn Tones

This year, I wanted our fall mantel to feel abundant and seasonal without relying on the traditional orange and red color palette. I pulled in rich magnolia leaves, soft blue hydrangeas, creamy florals, warm dahlias, figs and acorns to create a lush, layered arrangement that still feels light and elegant in our family room.

The secret to creating a full, designer-looking mantel like this is layering your stems in the right order. I started with the largest greenery and branches to create the shape, then continued adding smaller florals and finishing details.

My selenite sculpture is holding up my stems, you could use a ginger jar on each end of your mantel to hold yours up or use chicken wire secured with some command hooks. You could also do this down the center of a table, or on a console table.

Here is exactly what I used, in the order I added them to the mantel:

  1. 6 blue hydrangea branches (exact ones are on waitlist here)– These went down first, creating a soft blue foundation and tying the mantel into the rest of the room.
  2. 6 magnolia branches -use code RANDI20 for 20% off (budget option)  – I layered these throughout for fullness and those gorgeous glossy green and warm brown leaves that instantly feel like fall.
  3. 9 fig branches (bugdet option) – The figs add beautiful movement, texture and deeper autumn tones.
  4. 12 magnolia flowers (budget option)– I tucked these throughout to brighten the arrangement and break up all of the greenery.
  5. 4 sunflower bunches (budget option)– These bring in that pretty, relaxed garden feel and a touch of creamy yellow.
  6. 2 small daisy bunches, cut into individual stems  – Cutting these apart makes them so much easier to tuck into little holes and gives the arrangement a more natural look.
  7. 8 acorn stems (budget option) – One of my favorite details! These add just the right amount of fall texture without feeling too themed.
  8. 5 dahlias in each color  (spice and cream)– I added these last, scattering them throughout to bring in those soft peachy and warm autumn tones.

I love how the finished mantel feels like an overgrown fall garden spilling across the fireplace. The blue hydrangeas keep it connected to our home’s color palette, while the magnolia, figs, acorns and warmer florals give it that cozy autumn feeling.

It’s proof that fall decorating doesn’t have to mean changing your entire color palette—start with the colors you already love, then layer in natural textures and a few warmer seasonal tones. The result feels like fall while still feeling completely at home.
