Merry Christmas from our silver and gold family room! The silver and gold color scheme is an elegant, timeless Christmas tradition. To me, it feels clean and magical much like fresh fallen snow. Since it doesn’t snow where we live, the silver and gold scheme helps us feel more of the Christmas magic.
As promised, I will be posting different rooms of our house decorated for Christmas, with a detailed source list. Thank you for taking the time to visit our Christmas home.
Our Christmas tree belonged to my parents. Each branch comes off and the lights get restrung every year. My dad was overjoyed to send it to my house! It is a pain to set up, but it really is one of a kind. Every year I tweak the details to make it a little different. The mercury glass ornaments are always the base. This year I added magnolias, roses and tulips, and different pine and greenery boughs. The pop this year is the jingle bell and glittered linen ribbon.

The couch is adorned with a “joy to the world” pillow from Pottery Barn {from a few years ago}, fur pillows are from Marshall’s.
Our stockings are each different. I made a simple pattern and added ruffles and trim. They were really easy to make. The mercury glass candle sticks tie in with the ornaments from the tree, they are all from Home Goods. For the garland…
- First, I placed a simple flocked garland on the mantle
- Second, added pine picks into the garland into random places to make it fuller
- Third, tucked flowers {roses, tulips and baby hydrangeas}, pine cones, and gold and silver large jingle bells into the greenery
- Last, I draped battery powered light strands on the garland
My stockings are hung with double sided tape. It has held them very well!
I collect vintage bottle brush trees. Some are old, some are new. They are charming to me.
To start your own collection, check Hobby Lobby {for the ones with ornaments}, Amazon {for the tiny white ones}, Michaels {for the tall plain white one… for this one, I bought a pack of those green ones used for Christmas villages and bleached them}.
For an easy and stunning Christmas vignette, take a large punch bowl {bowl, or urn}, and fill it with large and small ornaments, some with ribbon tied on the end and some without {I used mercury glass ones but any color will do}. Drape a garland through the bowl for added interest. Done!
I’ve collected my ornaments over the years, after Christmas sales are the best time to start grabbing some if you want to start your own collection.
As a Christian, the nativity is the most special Christmas decor. This one was a gift from my mom. Since fresh greenery dies over night here, I clipped pieces of pine from an old garland and tucked them under the vintage silver tray.
