Favorite Throw Pillows + Styling Tips

First, let’s start with where to find the best throw pillows. I love to support small businesses so I check out Etsy first. Here are a few of my favorite pillow shops there…

Tips for Pillow Styling

  1. When choosing patterns for your pillows, select a large, medium and small print. This is a good rule of thumb for any room and style! See some of my favorite pillow combinations below.  Notice each row has large, medium and small prints.

2. Select inserts that fit your pillow size. Buy the exact size of your pillow cover if you want your pillows extra full. If you want your pillows to be full, but have a little give, buy pillow inserts 2″ smaller than your pillow cover. These are my favorite pillow inserts. I like to purchase down alternative inserts. They are better for allergies and are luxurious!

3.  Buy pillow with a zipper! This will allow you to slip them off, wash them and cover them with a new cover again and again. All of the pillows I shared above come with zippers and can be tossed in the wash. I like to air dry mine to prevent shrinking.

4. Look for washable pillow covers. Our pillows take a beating with 5 kids and 2 puppies! I mostly purchase pillows that are washable and made out of durable fabric.

5. Store your pillow covers in plastic lidded bins when not in use. Wash, fold and store until you need to use them again. I have my bins on shelves out in my garage. You can also slip your’s under the bed or in a closet if you have the space. Unused pillow inserts get put into vacuum storage bags and stored under the bed.
