Welcome to my Christmas home tour – Holiday Home Showcase hosted by Kelley Nan and featuring some of my dearest, and most talented design friends…

If you’ve come from Jennifer – Decor Gold Designs breathtaking home tour, welcome! If you are new to my blog, I’m so glad you are here!

Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year! I love filling each room in our home with the magic of Christmas. It makes the house feel so magical! My design loving grandma always told me, “Add a little touch of the season to every room in your home.”

I used to pull out all of my boxes and decorate in just a day. It felt overwhelming, chaotic and more like a chore than a fun tradition. Over the years, I’ve taken a different approach to my holiday decorating. My husband and kids help me put the boxes in the garage and then I decorate a little at a time until the whole house is dressed up for the birth of our Savior.

Every year I try to find a few ways to add new life to my Christmas collection, instead of having to buy all new decor for a new look. You can see last year’s Christmas tour here. Throughout my tour I’ll be sharing tips on how you can get a new look every year by using what you have and adding a few new things without breaking the bank or having to get a storage garage for all of your new Christmas decor!

Lots of packages greet you as you walk into the door. These white and gold boxes from last year got  new look with some new champagne glitter ribbon. Nestle the boxes together and store them for next year’s decor.

I’ll be sharing more details from my entryway next week!

My office features an elegant tree draped in gold with pops of velvety gray and glittery white. If you would like more details on this tree you can visit my parade of trees post.

I used cedar garland from last year and added silver and gold jingle bells to give them a different look from last year.

New pillows and throws are a great way to give your home a new look for Christmas.

Every year I add new ribbon and an ornament from our sconces down the hallway.

You can dress up your chandeliers with garland and ornaments. This year, I used ornaments from my collection and strung glittered jingle bells to create a new garland for our kitchen chandelier.

For a stunning centerpiece, use a large hurricane with a wreath tucked around it. Fill in the wreath with ornaments to match your Christmas decor. Every year you can get a new look by adding different ornaments.

Hang mini wreaths to the back of your chairs. My kids love this touch. I just pinned them into the upholstery.

Another easy centerpiece idea, is to gather a collection of something you already have and arrange them as a centerpiece. I used my collection of bottle brush trees. You could use candlesticks, ornaments or even beautifully wrapped packages.

What is Christmas without homemade treats or cookies and milk for Santa?! Use homemade treats for beautiful holiday decor. Stack treats and milk bottles or hot cocoa mugs on gorgeous cake plates. You can get our family’s favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe here.

I collect bottle brush trees and vintage glitter houses. You can display your collections on cake stand and platters to create sweet little vignettes throughout your home. I love to display mine mixed in with my kitchen essentials where I spend most of my time!

I had to retire my vintage Christmas tree {here}. It was a sad and glorious day at the Garrett house! The tree was my parents and it was majestic and unlike any other tree I’ve ever seen, but it was 20+ years old and the flock had turned brown. It took hours to set up, so my husband did a little happy dance when this new tree arrived and only took minutes to set up! It is beautiful too, just not as charming as my vintage beauty. I’m such a sentimental person, so to add a new tree to the family was a big deal.

A few tips to give your Christmas tree a new look…

  1. Invest in some neutral ornaments like silver and gold, that you can use every year. Use them as the base ornaments for your tree. Add a few special pops to give your tree a new look each year. This year I only added the giant heart ornaments and the coppery gold mercury glass ones to my tree.
  2. Use new ribbon. This year, I used wide gold ribbon with a glitter stripe down the center. You could use a colored ribbon for a fun pop for a totally different look.
  3. Buy new wrapping paper. Wrapping paper is fairly inexpensive and makes a huge statement under the tree. I used mostly boxes I already had and don’t require wrapping. I just added new ribbon. I did add some gold stripped paper for a subtle change.

I got these amazing stocking hangers that hide under the garland! I had to tape my stockings to the mantel last year! This year I was able to fill them with some tissue paper so they hang straight, and tuck a few gifts inside.

I used some garland from my stash. It was all green and clashed with my tree. So, I flocked it with Sno-FlockThe stuff is amazing! It was so much easier than I thought and I got the snowy look of my tree without having to buy new garland.

Use wreaths and garlands that you already have and tuck new ornaments and picks in with floral wire to update your look each year.

My kids love adding Christmas to their spaces. Little touches go a long way in their rooms. Bottle brush trees and a small Christmas tree make their room feel festive.
