Back to School Ice Cream Sundae Bar

My poor kids go back to school dragging their little feet with memories of fun filled summer days still fresh in their minds. I hate sending them back! They hate going back! So to make the transition a little sweeter, I try to do little things to make their day brighter when they get home! Last week I surprised them with a back to school ice cream sundae bar when they got home.

It took me just a few minutes to set up this sundae bar, but the impact was HUGE! Their sun-kissed cheeks beamed with excitement at this sweet spread set just for them!

I used pieces from Wal Mart’s fabulous, Vintage Chic collection. Did you know that they have different decor categories on their site to help decorate your home by style? Last month I shared pieces from their Coastal collection styled in our backyard. The pieces I used to set this fun back to school ice cream sundae bar all came from their Vintage Chic pieces. You will find everything you need to decorate your home and also help you entertain!

This is done in partnership with Wal Mart and contains affiliate links (full disclosure here).

How to Set the Sundae Bar

  • I used this bright and cheery dish towel set as a table runner on my kitchen island. Place 3 towels on the island laid out flat on the diagonal. Overlap them slightly. If you’re using it on a longer table, use all 4 of the towels. You can also use the extra towel as a hand towel to tie the look into your kitchen. I hung mine on my stove.
  • To hold the sundaes, use this gorgeous pink tray with gold handles! I have never seen a pink serving tray before! This was a real treat for me to find!!!!
  • Scoop your ice cream into these beautiful pink pearlized goblets! They come in a set of 4. I bought 2 sets and think I’m going to grab one more for larger entertaining gatherings! They also come in a really pretty blue color. Use this gold flatware to complete the look!
  • For the sundae, I used vanilla ice cream, topped with a fresh cherry. Additional toppings were placed in these stunning white bowls with a gold rim.
  • Every spread always looks better with some fresh flowers! So I tucked a few rose buds into these darling blue vases to brighten the sundae bar!

It really took me just a few minutes to get this all set up for my kiddos, but the look on their faces when they came home to this sweet surprise, I will never forget!

Use these pieces to create a special treat for your kids, grandkids or friends! I love how versatile each of the pieces are and how the vintage chid style blends right into the style my home.

  3. Your children will always remember this special treat done for them by their mom.
My mother had cut glass stem ware probably from a five and dime that she filled with homemade chocolate pudding. We squealed with delight when we saw it! This was in the 1950’s!
